Earlier this month, Discovery News reported that webcams showed stray dogs near the Fukushima I nuclear power plant.
The plant suffered catastrophic damage from the March 11th earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. The Guardian, a British newspaper, even noted on June 8th that nuclear fuel may have breached the reactor’s inner containment vessels.
Despite the presence of high radiation levels around the Fukushima plant, people are risking their lives to save abandoned dogs. On June 10th and 11th , the technology news Web site, Gizmodo Australia, reported that Japanese civilians drove to the plant and saved two dogs.
Gizmodo’s site even has streaming video footage of the animal rescue. Watch it here.
